Dr. Yoeny Calas-Dobson DVM has been a practicing veterinarian for over 20 years, with extensive education and experience caring for wildlife, ratites, avians, reptiles and all manner of exotic animals in addition to common household pets like dogs and cats.

Dr. Dobson received her Bachelor's degree from the University of Florida in 1980. She then pursued her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University National Autonomous de Mexico (UNAM) located in Mexico City. Upon her graduation in 1985, she went to the Animal Medical Center in New York City for an intensive postgraduate program. Later, she relocated to Oklahoma City where she enhanced her education by specializing in Ratites (ostriches, emus, and rheas).  Dr. Dobson is presently becoming certified in acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine from the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society.  (IVAS)

While in Oklahoma City, Dr. Dobson practiced emergency medicine and surgery, and performed ranch calls to the surrounding cities. In 1993 she received her ECFVG certificate from Oklahoma State University and relocated to Provo, Utah. She established Riverwoods Pet Hospital in 2000. The practice specializes in small animal, avian and exotic pets.  
 
Dr. Dobson is an enthusiastic horsewoman who owns and trains several breeds of horses, including Arabian, Paint, and Quarterhorse. She enjoys the outdoors and adventure in the high mountains of the Pauhvant range in Holden, Utah. She also has an ostrich ranch in Mexico in association with the UNAM veterinary school.

Dr. Dobson is a board member of American Indian Services, which is a non-profit organization that helps Native Americans improve their quality of life through scholarships. She assists them by providing free veterinary and medical services on the different reservations.

Dr. Dobson established PAS (Pet Assisted Services) a 501-C-3 organization, as a means to fund the expenses of treating injured/sick wildlife, domestic pets with no owners, and pets with owners who are not able to financially see to their well-being.  This program continues to grow and to benefit the lives of animals and the people who care for them. 

An active UVMA board member for over 5 years and Utah Valley VMA president from 2002 - 2005, Dr. Dobson established the monthly "IHOP Morning Breakfast" for her colleagues allowing them to meet, network ideas, and support one another in their chosen disciplines. She has also represented the Central Region for the UVMA State Board since 2002 and is currently on the Public Relations Committee and the Emergency Response Committee for the state board. 

One of her recent ventures includes her own radio show, “Pet Wise.” She has done weekly shows on KSTAR and on grapevineradio.com. Each week a new topic relating to animal husbandry, safety, and medicine is discussed.  Her colorful personality and expertise in the field of veterinary medicine shine through each time she is on the air!

A firm believer in education, Dr. Dobson takes every opportunity to expand her veterinary knowledge and to share it with the community through ventures such as PetWise radio, featured interviews on KUTV-2, public speaking engagements, and the Internet with her websites, RiverWoodsPetHospital.com and PetWiseMedia.com.
